The Catholic Epistle

A deacon proceeds to read the Catholic Epistle in Coptic before which he says

The Catholic Epistle from our father (…), may his blessing be upon us all. Amen.

Kaqolikon `ebol 'en ;`epictolh `nte peniwt (...) namenra;.

الكاثوليكون من أبينا (...) يا أحبائى.

At the end of the Epistle, the reader says

Do not love the world, nor things which are in the world. The world shall pass away and all its desires; but he who does the will of God shall abide forever. Amen.

Mpermenre pikocmoc> oude nhet]op 'en pikocmoc> pikocmoc nacini nem tef`epiqumi`a> vh de et`iri `m`vouw] `mV;> `fna]wpi ]a `ene\> `amhn.

لا تحبوا العالم ولا الأشياء التى فى العالم، العالم يزول وشهواته والذى يصنع إرادة الله يدوم إلى الأبد. آمين.

Then the Catholic Epistle is interpreted and the introduction is as follows

The Catholic Epistle from the first (or second or third) epistle of our teacher Peter (or John), may his blessing be upon us all. Amen.

الكاثوليكون من رسالة معلمنا بطرس (اويوحنا) الأولى (اوالثانية اوالثالثة) بركته علينا. آمين.

At the end of the interpretation the reader says

Do not love the world, nor things in it.

لا تحبوا العالم ولا شيئاً مما فيه.

Meanwhile, the priest says the following prayer for the Father

O Lord God, who has revealed unto us through Thine holy apostles, the mastery of the gospel of the glory of Thy Christ.

~P_ Pennou; vh`ete `ebol\iten nek`apoctoloc `eqouab> akouwn\ nan `ebol `m`vmucthrion `mpieuaggelion `nte `p`wou `nte Pekx/c/.

أيها الرب إلهنا الذى من قبل رسلك القديسين أظهرت لنا سر إنجيل مجد مسيحك.

And has given unto them according to the power of the infinite gift of Thy grace, that they should proclaim among all nations the glad news so the unsearchable riches of Thy mercy.

Ouo\ akthic nwou> kata ;ni]; `ndwre`a `nat;]i `eroc `nte pek`\mot> eqrou\i]ennoufi 'en nieqnoc throu> `n;metrama`o `natsitatci `ncwc `nte peknai.

وأعطيتهم حسب موهبة نعمتك العظيمة التى لا تحد أن يبشروا فى كل الأمم بغنى رحمتك الذى لا يستقصى.

We ask Thee, O our Lord, make us worthy to have a share and inheritance with them.

Ten;\o `erok Pennhb> `ariten `nem`p]a `mpoumeroc nem pou`klhroc.

نسألك ياسيدنا اجعلنا مستحقين نصيبهم وميراثهم.

Graciously, grant unto us always to walk in their footsteps, and to imitate their struggle.

Arixarizecqe nan `nchou niben> eqrenmo]i `nca nou]entatci> ouo\ `nten]wpi en`oni `nnou`agwn.

وأنعم علينا كل حين أن نسلك فى آثارهم ونكون متشبهين بجهادهم.

And to have communion with them in the sweat which they had for godliness sake.

Ouo\ `ntenerkoinwnin nemwou 'en nigw; `etau]opou `e`\rhi `ejen ;meteucebhc.

ونشترك معهم فى الأعراق التى قبلوها على التقوى.

Keep Thine holy church, which Thou founded through them.

Ekrwic `etekek`klhci`a `eqouab> qai `etak\icen; `mmoc `ebol\itotou.

احرس بيعتك المقدسة هذه التى أسستها من قبلهم.

And bless the lambs of Thy flock and make to increase this vine, which Thy right hand has planted; in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ouo\ ek`e`cmou `eni`ecwou `nte pek`o\i> ouo\ ek`e`qro `ntaibw `n`aloli `a]ai> 'en Px/c/ Ih/c/ Pen_.

وبارك خراف قطيعك واجعل هذه الكرمة تكثر هذه التى غرستها بيمينك بالمسيح يسوع ربنا.

Through Whom the glory, the honour, the dominion, and the adoration are due to Thee, with Him, and the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giver, Who is of One Essence with Thee.

Vai `ete `ebol\itotf `ere pi`wou nem pitai`o nem pi`ama\i nem ;`prockunhcic> er`prepi nak nemaf> nem Pi`pneuma e/q/u/ `nreftan'o ouo\ `n`omooucioc nemak.

هذا الذى من قبله المجد والكرامة والعزة والسجود تليق بك معه ومع الروح القدس المحيى المساوى لك.

Now, and at all times, and unto the age of all ages. Amen.

:nou nem `nchou niben nem ]a `ene\ `nte ni`ene\ throu> `amhn.

الآن وكل أوان وإلى دهر الدهور. آمين.

Then the priest steps up to the sanctuary and offer incense once. Then he starts the prayer of the Catholic inaudibly and says

O God, who accepted the sacrifice of Abraham, and prepared for him a lamb in place of Isaac.

V; vh`etaf]wp `erof `mpi`slil `nte Abraam> ouo\ `vma `nIcaak akcob; naf`nou`ecwou.

يا الله الذى قبل إليه محرقة إبراهيم، وبدلاً عن اسحق أعددت له خروفا.

Even so accept now at our hand, O our Lord, this sacrifice of incense.

Pairh; on ]wp `erok `ntoten \wn pennhb `mpi`slil `nte pai`cqoinoufi.

هكذا أقبل منا أيضاً يا سيدنا محرقة هذا البخور.

And send down upon us in return Thine abundant mercy.

Ouo\ ouwrp nan `e`'rhi `ntef]ebi`w> `mpeknai etoi `nrama`o.

وأرسل لنا عوضه رحمتك الغنية.

And make us pure from all pollution of sin.

Ouo\ `eak`qren]wpi enoi `nkaqaroc `ebol\a `cqoibwn niben `nte `vnobi.

وإجلعنا أن نكون أنقياء من كل نتن الخطية.

And make us worthy to serve in holiness and righteousness before Thy Goodness, O Lover of mankind, all the days of our life.

Ouo\ `ariten `nem`p]a> eqren]em]i `mpe`mqo `ntekmet`agaqoc pimairwmi> 'en outoubo nem oumeqmhi> `nni`eq\oou throu `nte penwn'.

واجعلنا مستحقين أن نخدم أمام صلاحك يا محب البشر بطهارة وبر كل أيام حياتنا.

The priest continues with the three short prayers of the peace, the fathers and the congregation as shown on page 9. Then he offers incense as shown on page 22. After the conclusion of the Catholic Epistle, the congregation says

Hail to you, O Mary, the fair dove, Who has borne unto us God the Logos.

Xere ne Mari`a> ;`srompi eqnecwc> qh`etacmici nan> `m~Vnou; pilogoc.

السلام لك يا مريم الحمامة الحسنة التى ولدت لنا الله الكلمة

During the lent of Nineveh and the great lent, except for its Sundays, the congregation says

God lifts the sins of the people through the sacrifices and the aroma of the incense.

}are V; `wli `mmau> `nninobi `nte pilaoc> `ebol\iten pi`slil> nem pi`cqoi `nte pi`cqoinoufi.

الله يرفع هناك خطايا الشعب من قبل المحرقات ورائحة البخور.

He Who gave himself up as an accepted sacrifice on the cross for the salvation of our race.

Vai `etafenf `e`p]wi> `nouquci`a ec]hp> \ijen pi`ctauroc> 'a `poujai `mpengenoc.

هذا الذى أصعد ذاته ذبيحة مقبولة على الصليب عن خلاص جنسنا.

The congregation may respond with any other response according to the occasion. After any response, they say

Blessed art Thou in truth, with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for Thou hast come and saved us. Have mercy on us.

~K`cmarwout `alhqwc> nem Pekiwt `n`agqoc> nem Pi`pneuma `eqouab> je ak`i akcw; `mmon nai nan.
