The Pauline Epistle

A deacon proceeds to read the Pauline Epistle in Coptic before which he says

Paul, the servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, appointed to the Gospel of God.

بولس عبد ربنا يسوع المسيح الرسول المدعو المفرز لبشارة الله.

In the presence of the patriarch, metropolitans and/or bishops, the reader says

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your saintly spirit, my lord, the honoured father, the high priest, Papa Abba (…).

Pi`\mot gar `mPen_ Ih/c/ Px/c/> ef`e]wpi nem pek`agion `pneuma> pa_ `niwt ettaihout> `narch`ereuc papa abba (...).

نعمة ربنا يسوع المسيح تكون مع روحك الطاهرة ياسيدى الآب المكرم رئيس الكهنة البابا أنبا (...).

In the presence of a bishop or a metropolitan, the reader says

And our father, the bishop (the metropolitan), Abba (…).

Nem peniwt `n`epickopoc (`mmutropolithc) abba (...).

وأبينا الأسقف (المطران) أنبا (...).

In the presence of several bishops or metropolitans, the reader says

And our fathers, the bishops (the metropolitans), who are with us.

Nem neniot `n`epickopoc (`mmhtropolithc) nhetxh neman.

وأبائنا الأساقفة (المطارنة) الذين معنا.

Then the reader continues

May the clergy and all the people be safe in the Lord. Amen. So be it.

Mare pi`klhroc nem pilaoc thrf oujai 'en ~P_> je `amhn ec`e]wpi.

فليكن الإكليروس وكل الشعب معافين فى الرب. آمين يكون.

At the end of the Epistle, the reader says

The grace and peace be with you all. Amen.

Pi`\mot gar nemwten nem `t\irhnh eucop> je `amhn ec`e]wpi.

النعمة معكم والسلام يكون معنا. آمين.

Then the Pauline Epistle is interpreted. The introduction of the interpretations is as follows

A chapter from Saint Paul’s first (or second) epistle to the people of Corinthians (or to his disciple Timothy), may his blessings be with us all. Amen.

فصل من رسالة معلمنا بولس الرسول الأولى (أو الثانية) إلى أهل كورنثوس (أو إلى تلميذه تيموثاوس) بركته علينا. آمين.

according to the name of the Epistle. The reading is concluded as follows

The grace of God the Father be upon your souls, my fathers and brothers. Amen.

نعمة الله الآب تحل على أرواحكم يا ابائي واخوتي. آمين.

Meanwhile, the priest says the following prayer for the Son

O God of knowledge, giver of wisdom, who brings to light the hidden things of darkness, and gives the word to them that preach the Gospel with great power.

يارب المعرفة ورازق الحكمة الذى يكشف الأعماق من الظلمة والمعطى كلمة للمبشرين بقوة عظيمة.

Who of Thy Goodness has called upon Paul, who was for some time a persecutor, to be a chosen vessel.

Vh`ete `ebol\iten tekmet`xrhctoc akmou; `ePauloc> vai `enafoi `ndiwkthc `nouchou> de `ckeuoc `ncwtp.

الذى من قبل صلاحك دعوت بولس هذا الذى كان طاردا زماناً أناء مختارا.

And was pleased in him that he should become a chosen apostle and preacher of the Gospel of Thy Kingdom, O Christ our God.

Ouo\ 'en vai ak;ma; eqref]wpi `nou`apoctoloc> efqa\em ouo\ `nref\iwi] `mpieuaggelion `nte tekmetouro> Px/c/ Pennou;.

وبهذا سررت أن يكون رسولاً مدعواً وكارزاً بإنجيل ملكوتك. أيها المسيح إلهنا.

We ask Thee also now, O Thou the Good and Lover of mankind, graciously grant us and all Thy people a mind free from wondering and a clear understanding that we may learn and understand how profitable are Thine holy teachings which are read to us now after him.

أنت الآن أيضاً أيها الصالح محب البشر نسألك أنعم علينا وعلى شعبك كله بعقل غير مشتغل وفهم نقي، لكى نعلم ونفهم ما هى منفعة تعاليمك المقدسة التى قرئت علينا الآن من قبله.

And as he followed Thine example, O Prince of life.

Ouo\ `m`vrh; `etaf`ini `mmok> `nqok `parxhgoc `nte `pwn'.

وكما تشبه بك أنت يا رئيس الحياة.

Likewise, make us worth to be like him in deed and in faith, glorifying Thine Holy Name and ever glory in Thy cross at all times.

هكذا نحن أيضاً أجعلنا مستحقين أن نكون متشبهين به فى العمل والإيمان ممجدين إسمك القدوس ومفتخرين بصليبك كل حين.

And Thou art He unto whom we ascribe the glory, the honour and the worship, together with Thy Good Father and the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giver who is of one essence with Thee.

وأنت الذى نرسل لك إلى فوق المجد والإكرام والسجود مع أبيك الصالح والروح القدس المحيى والمساوى لك.

Now, and at all times, and unto the age of all ages. Amen.
