A reader starts the psalm of David and says

A psalm of David.

Then the reader recites the psalm. The priest faces the reader and, on the third verse, he censes towards the Gospel and says

Worship to the Bible of Jesus Christ.

The priest steps up to the sanctuary on the fourth verse of the psalm, signs the incense box with the sign of the cross once, and adds one scoop of incense to the censer while saying "Glory and honour…" to its end. The deacon steps up to the sanctuary holding the cross and the gospel. The priest offers incense to the gospel while proceeding around the altar once with the deacon moving backwards in front of him. The priest says the following prayer of Simon the priest (Luke 2:29-32) inaudibly.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

On annual weekdays and not on feasts, during Vespers and while the deacon holds the Gospel, the congregation says (Psalm 140:1-2)

O Lord, I have cried to thee; hear me: attend to the voice of my supplication, when I cry to thee. Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice. Alleluia.

Similarly, during Matins, the congregation says (Psalm 142:8, 66:1-2)
