And in the third month of the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came into the wilderness of Sina. And they departed from Raphidin, and came into the wilderness of Sina, and there Israel encamped before the mountain. And Moses went up to the mount of God, and God called him out of the mountain, saying, These things shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and thou shalt report them to the children of Israel. Ye have seen all that I have done to the Egyptians, and I took you up as upon eagles’ wings, and I brought you near to myself. And now if ye will indeed hear my voice, and keep my covenant, ye shall be to me a peculiar people above all nations; for the whole earth is mine. And ye shall be to me a royal priesthood and a holy nation: these words shalt thou speak to the children of Israel.

وفى الشهر الثالث لخروج بنى إسرائيل من أرض مصر فى ذلك اليوم جاءوا إلى برية سينا. ورحلوا من رافازين ووصلوا إلى إلى برية سينا ونزلوا هناك قبالة الجبل. فصعد موسى إلى جبل الله فناداه الله من الجبل قائلاً : هذا ما تقوله لبيت يعقوب وتخبر بنى إسرائيل قائلاً لهم. قد رأيتم كل الأعمال التى صنعتها بالمصريين وكيف حملتكم كأنكم على أجنحة النسور وأتيت بكم إلي والآن أن كنتم سمعاً تسمعون لصوتى وتحفظون عهدى. فأنكم تكونون لى شعباً مجتمعاً إلى الأبد من بين جميع الأمم. لأن لى الآرض بأسرها وأنتم تكونون لى مملكة مقدسة وأمة مطهرة. هذا هو الكلام الذى تقوله لبيت إسرائيل.

And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and he set before them all these words, which God appointed them. And all the people answered with one accord, and said, All things that God has spoken, we will do and hearken to: and Moses reported these words to God. And the Lord said to Moses, Lo! I come to thee in a pillar of a cloud, that the people may hear me speaking to thee, and may believe thee for ever: and Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord.

فجاء موسى ودعا شيوخ الشعب وقص عليكم كل هذه الكلمات التى أمره الله بها. فأجاب جميع الشعب معاً وقالوا. كل ما تكلم به الله. نسمعه ونعمل به. فرفع موسى كلام الشعب إلى الله.

Yea, I know that pleading is out of my reach; and his hand has been made heavy upon my groaning. Who would then know that I might find him, and come to an end of the matter? And I would plead my own cause, and he would fill my mouth with arguments. And I would know the remedies which he would speak to me, and I would perceive what he would tell me. Though he should come on me in his great strength, then he would not threaten me; for truth and reproof are from him; and he would bring forth my judgment to an end. For if I shall go first, and exist no longer, still what do I know concerning the latter end?

أنا أعلم أن توبيخي هو منه. ويده قد ثقلت على تنهدى. من الذى يعلم أنى أجده وأنهم تحابوا معى إلى التمام ولست أستطيع أن أقول حكماً أمامه. فيمتلئ فمي توبيخاً. أنا أعلم بثبات ما يقوله لي وأشعر بما يعرفنى أياه. ولا يأتى على بقوة عظيمة ولا يفسح لي فى الرجز. لأن البر والتوبيخ هما منه. و يخرج حكمي إلى الأنقضاء وأمضى إلى الأوائل. ولا أكون بعد. ولا أعلم ما فى الأواخر.

When he wrought on the left hand, then I observed it not: his right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see it. For he knows already my way; and he has tried me as gold. And I will go forth according to his commandments, for I have kept his ways; and I shall not turn aside from his commandments, neither shall I transgress; but I have hid his words in my bosom. And if too he has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for he has both willed a thing and done it. Therefore am I troubled at him; and when I was reproved, I thought of him.

عمله في الشمال لم أمسك ويسترني اليمين ولا أنظر. هو عارف طريقى ومحصنى مثل الذهب. فأسلك بحسب أوامره ولا أرفضها أخفى كلامه فى حضنى. فأن كان قد حكم هكذا فمن هو الذى يقاومه. وهو ما يريده يفعله.

Therefore let me take good heed before him: I will consider, and be afraid of him. But the Lord has softened my heart, and the Almighty has troubled me. For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered me before my face. But why have the seasons been hidden from the Lord, while the ungodly have passed over the bound, carrying off the flock with the shepherd? They have led away, the ass of the fatherless, and taken the widow’s ox for a pledge.

من أجل ذلك أسرعت إليه أدبنى فخفت منه. لهذا أسرع قدام وجهه وأتأمل فأرتعب منه. لأن الرب قد أضعف قلبى. والضابط الكل أسرع ورائى. لأنى كنت أعلم أن الظلمة ستأتى على. و الضباب غطى وجهى كيف خفيت هذه الساعات عن الرب. فتجاوز المنافقون حدودهم مختطفين القطيع مع راعيه. وأخذوا حمار الأيتام وأرتهنوا بقرة الأرملة.

They have turned aside the weak from the right way: and the meek of the earth have hidden themselves together. And they have departed like asses in the field, having gone forth on my account according to their own order: his bread is sweet to his little ones. They have reaped a field that was not their own before the time: the poor have laboured in the vineyards of the ungodly without pay and without food. They have caused many naked to sleep without clothes, and they have taken away the covering of their body. They are wet with the drops of the mountains: they have embraced the rock, because they had no shelter. They have snatched the fatherless from the breast, and have afflicted the outcast. And they have wrongfully caused others to sleep without clothing, and taken away the morsel of the hungry. They have unrighteously laid wait in narrow places, and have not known the righteous way.

وجلعوا الضعفاء يميلون عن طريق الحق وأختفى ودعاء الأرض معاً. وصاروا كالبقر فى الحقل. وطرحوا أعمالهم على وأستحلوا خبز الأطفال. حقلاً ليس لهم حصدوه قبل أوانه. يعمل الضعفاء فى كروم المنافقين بلا أجرة ولا طعام. كثيراً ما جعلوهم يبيتون عراة بغير لباس ونزعوا كساء أنفسهم. فأبتلوا من قطر الجبال. وحيث أن لا خيام لهم أستتروا بالصخور. خطفوا الأيتام عن ثديهم. ومن سقط أذلوه. بظلمهم جعلوا قوماً ينامون عراة. و أخذوا خبز الجياع. فى المواضع الضيقة أصطادوا بالظلم. وطريق العدل لم يعرفوه. والذين طردوهم من مدنهم وبيوتهم لم يعرفوهم.

Who have cast forth the poor from the city and their own houses, and the soul of the children has groaned aloud. Why then has he not visited these? forasmuch as they were upon the earth, and took no notice, and they knew not the way of righteousness, neither have they walked in their appointed paths? But having known their works, he delivered them into darkness: and in the night one will be as a thief: and the eye of the adulterer has watched for the darkness, saying, Eye shall not perceive me, and he puts a covering on his face.

فصارت نفس الأطفال فى تنهد شديد. لماذا لم يفتقد هؤلاء وهم على الأرض وهم لم يعرفوا طريق البر. ولم يمشوا فى سبله. فلما علم بأعمالهم أسلمهم للظلمة قائلاً. لا تبصرنى عين. فيجعل ستراً على وجهه.

In darkness he digs through houses: by day they conceal themselves securely: they know not the light. For the morning is to them all as the shadow of death, for each will be conscious of the terror of the shadow of death. He is swift on the face of the water: let his portion be cursed on the earth; and let their plants be laid bare.

نقب بيوتاً فى الظلام وفى النهار أغلقوا على أنفسهم. فلا يعرفون النور صباحاً. لأن ظل الموت يدركهم معاً. لأنه يعرف أهوال ظل الموت. خفيف هو على وجه الماء. فليكن نصيبهم ملعوناً على الأرض.

Let them be withered upon the earth; for they have plundered the sheaves of the fatherless. Then is his sin brought to remembrance, and he vanishes like a vapour of dew: but let what he has done be recompensed to him, and let every unrighteous one be crushed like rotten wood. For he has not treated the barren woman well, and has had no pity on a feeble woman. And in wrath he has overthrown the helpless: therefore when he has arisen, a man will not feel secure of his own life. When he has fallen sick, let him not hope to recover: but let him perish by disease. For his exaltation has hurt many; but he has withered as mallows in the heat, or as an ear of corn falling off of itself from the stalk. But if not, who is he that says I speak falsely, and will make my words of no account?

وليظهر نباتهم يابساً على وجه الأرض. لأنهم نهبوا أعمار الأيتام. وحين ذكر خطيته وصار غير ظاهر كمثل الخشب الغير النافع. لأنهم لم يحسنوا إلى العاقر ولم يرحموا (الأرملة). وبغضب طرحوا الضعفاء. فاذا قام لا يأمن على حياته. وإذا مرض لا يجعلوه يرجو أن يشفى بل يسقط بالمرض. إن كثيرين خفضهم أرتفاعه فذبلت خضرتهم بالحر مثل النبل إذا سقط وحده من البرائب. وإلا فمن قال له أنى كذبت ويجعل كلامى كلا شئ.

Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. Cursing, and lying, and murder, and theft, and adultery abound in the land, and they mingle blood with blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and shall be diminished with all that dwell in it, with the wild beasts of the field, and the reptiles of the earth, and with the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea shall fail: that neither any one may plead, nor any one reprove another; but my people are as a priest spoken against. Therefore they shall fall by day, and the prophet with thee shall fall: I have compared thy mother unto night. My people are like as if they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt not minister as priest to me: and as thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. According to their multitude, so they sinned against me: I will turn their glory into shame. 8 They will devour the sins of my people, and will set their hearts on their iniquities.

أسمعوا كلام الرب يا بنى إسرائيل فأن للرب محاكمة مع سكان الأرض لأنه لا حق ولا رحمة ولا معرفة الله على الأرض. بل لعنة وكذب وقتل وسرقة وفسق قد فاضت على الأرض ودماء تختلط بدماء. لذلك تنوح الأرض وكل من يسكن فيها. يذبل مع وحوش البرية ودبابات الأرض وطيور السماء وسمك البحر أيضاً يفنى. مثل الكاهن الذى يمارى فى عبادة الأصنام.مثل الكاهن الذى يمارى فى عبادة الأله. فيتعثر بالنهار ويتعثر أيضاً النبي معك. وأمك شبهتها بالليل. وصار شعبى كمن لا معرفة له. لأنك أنت رفضت المعرفة. أنا أيضاً أرفضك فلا تكهن لى. أنسى أنا أيضاً ناموس إسرائيل وأنسى أعمالهم. هكذا أخطأوا فأبدل مجدهم هوانا. وخطايا شعبى تأكلهم. وبظلمهم تنزع نفوسهم.

عظة لأبينا القديس أنبا شنودة رئيس المتوحدين، بركته المقدسة تكون معنا. آمين.

Let me inform you of two matters. Those for whom the heaven rejoiced for because of their repentance on earth will not suffer sadness or pain in the pace they are destined to inherit. As for those whom heavens did not rejoice for because they did not atone for their sins and did not repent for their inequities on earth, they will find neither joy nor comfort in that place. Because those who revel in pleasures and delights will enjoy neither happiness nor comfort in Heaven.

أنا أخبركم بأمرين. أن كل الذين فرح بهم فى السماء لأجل توبتهم على الأرض. سوف لا يرون حزنا ولا ألماً فى ذلك المكان وأما الذين لم يفرح بهم فى السماء لأجل الأرتداد من توبتهم على الأرض فسوف لا يرون فرحاً ولا نياحا فى ذلك الموضع. لأن الذين سيصنعون فرحهم على الأرض. سوف لا يرون فرحاً ولا نياحا من الآن.

Have you not heard his saying “Blessed are those who mourn because they shall be comforted.” Also those who do not rejoice on earth shall rejoice in heavens.

أما سمعتم طوبى للحزانى فأنهم يتعزون. وكذلك الأخرون الذين لا يفرحون على الأرض. يفرحون أيضاً فى السموات.

Have you not heard, “Woe to you who laugh now for you shall weep and mourn. “Isn’t this the time when the meek is vested with power. And he who is not strong will say “I am strong” when he yields his heart to the written Word.

أما سمعتم الويل لكم أيها الضاحكون الأن فأنكم ستبكون وتحزنون. أليس هذا هو الزمان الذى فيه يلبس الضعفاء القوة. والذى ليس بقوى يقول أنا قوى عند ما يعطى قلبه للقول المكتوب.

As the prophet says, “Many are those whose repeated adultery has weakened their bodies, and they shall be weakened at heart as well.”

ثم قال لهم يسوع أيضاً أنا أمضى وستظلموننى فلا تجدوننى وتموتون بخطاياكم. وحيث أمضى أنا فلا تقدرون أنتم أن تأتوا إليه. فقال اليهود العله يقتل نفسه وحده. حتى يقول حيت أمضى أنا لا تقدرون أنتم أن تأتوا.فقال لهم أنتم من أسفل. وأما أنا فمن فوق. أنتم من هذا العالم. وأما أنا فلست من هذا العالم. قد قلت لكم أنكم تموتون بخطاياكم. لأنكم أن لم تؤمنوا أنى أنا هو. تموتون بخطاياكم.فقالوا له من أنت. فقال لهم يسوع أنا من البدء تكلمت معكم ولى أشياء كثيرة أقولها وأحكم بها من نحوكم. ولكن الذى أرسلنى هو حق وأنا ما سمعته منه فهذا أتكلم به العالم. فلم يفهموا أنه كان يقول لهم عن الأب. فقال لهم يسوع متى رفعتم أبن الأنسان فحينئذ تعلمون أنى أنا هو. ولست أفعل شيئاَ من ذاتى وحدى. بل أتكلم بهذا كما علمنى أبى. والذى أرسلنى هو معى ولم يدعنى وحدى لأنى فى كل حين أفعل ما يرضيه.

And Israel came to Mount Rafazin after three months in the wilderness. Then the Israelites came out of Egypt and Mount Sinai to this place. Moses came and stood in the presence of god; He called and spoke to him saying: This is what you tell the house of Israel, and report to the sons of Israel. You have seen the many deeds I have inflicted on the Egyptians and how I carried you with my soaring power as if you were on the wings of eagles. Keep my laws and commandments, pay heeds to my words and carry out my will, for I have chosen you from among the nations, for I have the earth and the sea as well. You will be my kingdom, a chosen people and a holy nation. And Moses came back and told the people all what God has said. The public cheered in one voice saying: Whatever God wills, we will observe. Moses then told the Omniscient that the people adhered to His orders. But Israel turned back, Jacob retreated, and the sons of Israel strayed away. The God’s commandments became as if they were not, and his instructions ignored. This God delivered them into the hands of hateful enemies, and subjugated them to strangers once again. He humiliated them before the nations and they lived in eternal shame and disgrace.

وجاء إسرائيل إلى جبل رافازين من بعد ثلاثة أشهر وهو فى البرية. وخرج بنو إسرائيل من مصر وجبل سيناء إلى هذا المكان. فجاء موسى ووقف قدام الله فناداه وتكلم معه قائلاً : هذا ما تقوله لبيت يعقوب وتخبر به بنى إسرائيل. أنكم قد رأيتم أعمالى الكثيرة التى صنعتها أنا بالمصريين وكيف حملتكم أنا بقوتى العالية كأنكم على أجنحة النسور. فأحفظوا ناموسى ووصاياى وأنصتوا لكلامى وأصنعوا إرادتى فإننى أخترتكم من بين جميع الأمم لأن لى الأرض كلها والبحر معاً. لتصيروا لى مملكة وشعباً مختاراً وأمة مطهرة. فجاء موسى وأخبر الشعب بجميع هذا الكلام الذى قاله الرب. فصرخ جميع الشعب بصوت واحد قائلين كلما يرسم به الله نحن نحفظه. فقام موسى وخبر العارف أن الشعب سمع أوامرك. فعاد إسرائيل ورجع يعقوب إلى خلف وحاد بنو إسرائيل. وصارت وصاياه كلاً شئ وأوامره عادت باطلة. فلذلك أسلمهم إلى أعداء مبغضين وأسعبدوا للغرباء مرة أخرى. ونكس رؤوسهم أمام الأمم وصاروا فى فضيحة وخزى أبدى.
