The Institution Narrative

The priest points towards the bread and then towards the grape wine and says

He instituted for us this great mystery of godliness.

Ⲁϥⲭⲱ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲉ̀ϧ̀ⲣⲏⲓ ⲙ̀ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛⲓϣϯ ⲙ̀ⲙⲩⲥⲧⲏⲣⲓⲟⲛ ⲛ̀ⲧⲉ ϯⲙⲉⲧⲉⲩⲥⲉⲃⲏⲥ.

ووضع لنا هذا السر العظيم الذى للتقوى.

The deacon holds up the censer and the priest adds one scoop of incese while holding the spoon with a corporal. Then the priest puts down the corporals and censes his hands over the censer three times in preparation to hold the bread. The priest removes his hands from over the censer and says

For being determined to give himself up to death for the life of the world.

Ⲉϥⲑⲏϣ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉ̀ⲧⲏⲓϥ ⲉ̀ⲫ̀ⲙⲟⲩ: ϧⲁ ⲡ̀ⲱⲛϧ ⲙ̀ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ.

لأنه فيما هو راسم أن يسلم نفسه للموت عن حياة العالم.

The priest holds the bread and removes the corporal under it, kisses it and leaves it on the altar. Meanwhile, he says

He took bread into His holy, spotless, unblemished, blessed and life-giving hands.

Ⲁϥϭⲓ ⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲱⲓⲕ ⲉ̀ϫⲉⲛ ⲛⲉϥϫⲓϫ ⲉ̀ⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ: ⲛ̀ⲁⲧⲁϭⲛⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛ̀ⲁⲧⲑⲱⲗⲉⲃ: ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲙ̀ⲙⲁⲕⲁⲣⲓⲟⲛ: ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛ̀ⲣⲉϥⲧⲁⲛϧⲟ.

أخذ خبزاً على يديه الطاهرتين اللتين بلا عيب ولا دنس الطوباويتين المحييتين.

The priest puts his right hand on the bread while holding it with his left hand and says

He looked up towards heaven to Thee, O God, who art His Father and Master of everyone.

ونظر إلى فوق نحو السماء إليك يا الله أباه وسيد كل أحد.

The priest signs the bread three times. In the first time, he says

He gave thanks.

Ⲉⲧⲁϥϣⲉⲡϩ̀ⲙⲟⲧ.

وشكر.

Amen.

حقاً.

In the second time, he says

He blessed it.

We believe, we confess, and we glorify.

Ⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲟⲙⲉⲛ ⲕⲉ ⲟ̀ⲙⲟⲗⲅⲟⲩⲙⲉⲛ ⲕⲉ ⲇⲟⲝⲁⲍⲟⲙⲉⲛ.

نؤمن ونعترف ونمجد.

The priest breaks the bread into one third and two thirds without splitting it and without cracking the middle bodikin. The one third will be near his right and the other part will be near his left hand. Meanwhile, he says

He broke it, gave it to his own holy disciples and saintly apostles saying:

Ⲁϥⲫⲁϣϥ ⲁϥⲧⲏⲓϥ ⲛ̀ⲛⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛ̀ⲁ̀ⲅⲓⲟⲥ ⲙ̀ⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ: ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛ̀ⲁ̀ⲡⲟⲥⲧⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉ̀ⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙ̀ⲙⲟⲥ.

وقسمه وأعطاه لخواصه التلاميذ القديسين والرسل الأطهار قائلاً.

“Take, eat of it all of you. For this is My Body.”

Ϫⲉ ϭⲓ ⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗⲛ̀ϧⲏⲧϥ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ: ⲫⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲥⲱⲙⲁ.

خذوا كلوا منه كلكم لأن هذا هو جسدى.

The priest slightly splits the bread from top without separating the parts and puts it in the paten. He cleanses his hands from any pieces of bread that could have stuck to them, and then kisses the bread. Meanwhile, he says

“Which shall be broken for you and for many, to be given for the remission of sins. Do this in remembrance of Me.”

Ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲛⲁⲫⲁϣϥ ⲉ̀ϫⲉⲛ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ϩⲁⲛⲗⲉⲙⲏϣ: ⲛ̀ⲥⲉⲧⲏⲓϥ ⲉ̀ⲡ̀ⲭⲱ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̀ⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲛⲟⲃⲓ: ⲫⲁⲓ ⲁ̀ⲣⲓⲧϥ ⲉ̀ⲡⲁⲉⲣⲫ̀ⲙⲉⲩⲓ̀.

الذى يقسم عنكم وعن كثيرين. يعطى لمغفرة الخطايا. هذا أصنعوه لذكرى.

Ⲫⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ: ⲁ̀ⲙⲏⲛ.

هذا هو بالحقيقة. آمين.

The priest puts his hand at the edge of the chalice and says

Likewise also the cup after supper He mixed it of wine and water.

Ⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ ⲟⲛ ⲡⲓⲕⲉⲁ̀ⲫⲟⲧ ⲙⲉⲛⲉⲛⲥⲁ ⲡⲓⲇⲓⲡⲛⲟⲛ: ⲁϥⲑⲟⲧϥ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲏⲣⲡ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩⲙⲱⲟⲩ.

وهكذا الكأس أيضاً بعد العشاء مزجها من ثمرة الكرمة وماء.

The priest signs the chalice three times. In the first time, he says

He gave thanks.

وشكر.

He tasted, and gave it also to His own holy disciples and saintly apostles saying:

Ⲁϥϫⲉⲙϯⲡⲓ ⲁϥⲧⲏⲓϥ ⲟⲛ ⲛ̀ⲛⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛ̀ⲁ̀ⲅⲓⲟⲥ ⲙ̀ⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ: ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛ̀ⲁ̀ⲡⲟⲥⲧⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉ̀ⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙ̀ⲙⲟⲥ.

وذاق وأعطاها أيضاً لتلاميذه القديسين ورسله الأطهار قائلاً.

The priest makes the sign of the cross with the chalice by slightly tilting it towards the west, east, north and south, and says

“Take, drink of it all of you.”

Ϫⲉ ϭⲓ ⲥⲱ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̀ϧⲏⲧϥ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ.

خذوا اشربوا منه كلكم.

The priest puts down the chalice, points towards it and says

“For this is my Blood for the new covenant which shall be shed for you and many, to be given for the remission of sins. Do this in remembrance of Me.”

Ⲫⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲥ̀ⲛⲟϥ ⲛ̀ⲧⲉ ϯⲇⲓⲁ̀ⲑⲏⲕⲏ ⲙ̀ⲃⲉⲣⲓ: ⲉ̀ⲧⲟⲩⲛⲁⲫⲟⲛϥ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ ⲉ̀ϫⲉⲛ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ϩⲁⲛⲕⲉⲙⲏϣ: ⲛ̀ⲥⲉⲧⲏⲓϥ ⲉ̀ⲡ̀ⲭⲱ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̀ⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲛⲟⲃⲓ: ⲫⲁⲓ ⲁ̀ⲣⲓⲧϥ ⲉ̀ⲡⲁⲉⲣⲫ̀ⲙⲉⲩⲓ̀.

لأن هذا هو دمى الذى للعهد الجديد. الذى يسفك عنكم وعن كثيرين. يعطى لمغفرة الخطايا. هذا اصنعوه لذكرى.

The priest points towards the bread and says

For every time you shall eat of this bread.

Ⲥⲟⲡ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉ̀ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲁⲓⲱⲓⲕ ⲫⲁⲓ.

لأن كل مرة تأكلون من هذا الخبز.

Then the priest points towards the chalice and says

And drink of this cup.

Ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛ̀ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁ̀ⲫⲟⲧ ⲫⲁⲓ.

وتشربون من هذه الكأس.

Then the priest continues

You proclaim my death, confess my resurrection and remember me till I come.

Ⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲓⲱⲓϣ ⲙ̀ⲡⲁⲙⲟⲩ: ⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲟ̀ⲙⲟⲗⲟⲅⲓⲛ ⲛ̀ⲧⲁⲁ̀ⲛⲁⲥⲧⲁⲥⲓⲥ: ⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲓ̀ⲣⲓ ⲙ̀ⲡⲁⲙⲉⲩⲓ̀ ϣⲁϯⲓ̀.

تبشرون بموتى وتعترفون بقيامتى وتذكرونى إلى أن أجئ.

Amen. Amen. Amen. Thy death, O Lord, we proclaim. Thine holy resurrection and ascension to the heavens, we confess.

We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we thank Thee, O Lord, and we entreat Thee, O our God.

Therefore, as we also commemorate His holy passion, His resurrection from the dead, His ascension into the heavens, His sitting at Thy right hand, O Father.

ففيما نحن أيضاً نصنع ذكر آلامه المقدسة وقيامته من الأموات وصعوده إلى السموات وجلوسه عن يمينك أيها الآب.

And His second coming which shall be from the heavens, fearful and full of glory.

Ⲛⲉⲙ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲁϩⲥ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ ⲙ̀ⲡⲁⲣⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ̀: ⲉⲑⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲓⲫⲏⲟⲩⲓ̀: ⲉⲧⲟⲓ ⲛ̀ϩⲟϯ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲑⲙⲉϩ ⲛ̀ⲱ̀ⲟⲩ.

وظهوره الثانى الآتى من السموات المخوف المملوء مجداً.

We offer unto Thee Thine oblations from what is Thine, for everything, concerning everything and in everything.

Ⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲡ̀ⲟⲥⲫⲉⲣⲓⲛ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲛ̀ⲛⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲕ ⲛ̀ⲇⲱⲣⲟⲛ ⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲕ: ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ: ⲛⲉⲙ ⲉⲑⲃⲉ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲙ ϧⲉⲛ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ.

نقرب لك قرابينك من الذى لك على كل حال ومن أجل كل حال وفى كل حال.
