The Holy Gospel

A chapter from the Gospel according to Saint Luke the evangelist, may his blessings be with us. Amen.

فصل من إنجيل معلمنا لوقا البشير، بركاته علينا. آمين.

Luke 9:10-17

لوقا ٩: ١٠-١٧

And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all they had done. And taking them, he went aside into a desert place, apart, which belongeth to Bethsaida.

ولمّا رَجعَ الرُّسُلُ حَدَّثوهُ بما فَعلوا، فأخَذَهُم مَعهُ ودَخلَ عَلَى إنْفِرادٍ إلَى مَوْضع خَلاءٍ لمدينَةٍ تُسَمَّى بَيْتَ صَيْدا.

Which when the people knew, they followed him; and he received them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and healed them who had need of healing. Now the day began to decline. And the twelve came and said to him: Send away the multitude, that going into the towns and villages round about, they may lodge and get victuals; for we are here in a desert place. But he said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said: We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; unless perhaps we should go and buy food for all this multitude. Now there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples: Make them sit down by fifties in a company. And they did so; and made them all sit down.

فَلَمّا عَلِمَت الجُموعُ تَبعوهُ فَقَبلهُمْ وخاطَبَهُم عَنْ مَلَكوتِ اللَّهِ. والمحْتاجونَ إلَى الشِّفاءِ شَفاهُمْ، وكانَ النَّهارُ قَد بَدأ يَميلُ فَتقدَّمَ إليْهِ الإثْنا عَشَر وقالوا لَهُ اصْرِف الجُموعَ لِيَذْهَبوا إلَى القُرَى المحيطةِ والحُقول ليَسْتَريحوا ويَجِدوا ما يَأْكلونَهُ، فإنَّنا هَهُنا فى مَوضِعٍ قَفْرٍ. فَقالَ لَهُم: أعْطوهُم أنْتُم ليَأْكُلوا. فَقالوا لَيْسَ عِنْدَنا أكْثَر مِنْ خَمْسِ خُبْزاتٍ وسَمَكَتيْنِ، إلاّّ أنْ نَمْضى نَحنُ وَنَشْتَرى أطْعِمةً لهَذا الشَّعْبِ جَميعِهِ، وَكانوا نَحْو خَمْسةِ آلافِ رَجُلٍ. فَقالَ لتَلاميذِه: لِيَتَّكِئُوا فى كُلِّ مَوْضِعٍ خَمْسينَ خَمْسينَ فَفَعَلوا هَكَذا واتكأوهُمْ أجْمعيَن.

And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed them; and he broke, and distributed to his disciples, to set before the multitude. Glory be to God forever. Amen.

فأخَذَ الخَمس خبْزاتٍ والسَّمكَتيْنِ ونَظَرَ إلَى السَّمَاءِ وبارَكَها وقَسَّمَها وأعْطَى التَّلاميذَ ليَضَعوا أَمامَ الجُموعِ. فَأَكَلوا جَميعُهُمْ وشَبعوا، ثُمَّ رَفَعوا ما فَضَلَ عَنْهُم مِنَ الكِسَرِ اثْنَتَىْ عَشَرَة قُفَّةً مَمْلوءةً. والمجْدُ للَّهِ دائما.
