10:12-11:28

١٠ : ١٢ − ١١ : ٢٨

And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but that thou fear the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways, and love him, and serve the Lord thy God, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul: And keep the commandments of the Lord, and his ceremonies, which I command thee this day, that it may be well with thee? Behold heaven is the Lord's thy God, and the heaven of heaven, the earth and all things that are therein. And yet the Lord hath been closely joined to thy fathers, and loved them and chose their seed after them, that is to say, you, out of all nations, as this day it is proved. Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and stiffen your neck no more. Because the Lord your God he is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, a great God and mighty and terrible, who accepteth no person nor taketh bribes. He doth judgment to the fatherless and the widow, loveth the stranger, and giveth him food and raiment. And do you therefore love strangers, because you also were strangers in the land of Egypt. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him only: to him thou shalt adhere, and shalt swear by his name. He is thy praise, and thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thy eyes have seen. In seventy souls thy fathers went down into Egypt: and behold now the Lord thy God hath multiplied thee as the stars of heaven.

«فَالآنَ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، مَاذَا يَطْلُبُ مِنْكَ الرَّبُّ إِلهُكَ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَتَّقِيَ الرَّبَّ إِلهَكَ لِتَسْلُكَ فِي كُلِّ طُرُقِهِ، وَتُحِبَّهُ، وَتَعْبُدَ الرَّبَّ إِلهَكَ مِنْ كُلِّ قَلْبِكَ وَمِنْ كُلِّ نَفْسِكَ، وَتَحْفَظَ وَصَايَا الرَّبِّ وَفَرَائِضَهُ الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكَ بِهَا الْيَوْمَ لِخَيْرِكَ. هُوَذَا لِلرَّبِّ إِلهِكَ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَسَمَاءُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضُ وَكُلُّ مَا فِيهَا. وَلكِنَّ الرَّبَّ إِنَّمَا الْتَصَقَ بِآبَائِكَ لِيُحِبَّهُمْ، فَاخْتَارَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ نَسْلَهُمُ الَّذِي هُوَ أَنْتُمْ فَوْقَ جَمِيعِ الشُّعُوبِ كَمَا فِي هذَا الْيَوْمِ. فَاخْتِنُوا غُرْلَةَ قُلُوبِكُمْ، وَلاَ تُصَلِّبُوا رِقَابَكُمْ بَعْدُ. لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلهَكُمْ هُوَ إِلهُ الآلِهَةِ وَرَبُّ الأَرْبَابِ، الإِلهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمَهِيبُ الَّذِي لاَ يَأْخُذُ بِالْوُجُوهِ وَلاَ يَقْبَلُ رَشْوَةً. الصَّانِعُ حَقَّ الْيَتِيمِ وَالأَرْمَلَةِ، وَالْمُحِبُّ الْغَرِيبَ لِيُعْطِيَهُ طَعَامًا وَلِبَاسًا. فَأَحِبُّوا الْغَرِيبَ لأَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ غُرَبَاءَ فِي أَرْضِ مِصْرَ. الرَّبَّ إِلهَكَ تَتَّقِي. إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُ، وَبِهِ تَلْتَصِقُ، وَبِاسْمِهِ تَحْلِفُ. هُوَ فَخْرُكَ، وَهُوَ إِلهُكَ الَّذِي صَنَعَ مَعَكَ تِلْكَ الْعَظَائِمَ وَالْمَخَاوِفَ الَّتِي أَبْصَرَتْهَا عَيْنَاكَ. سَبْعِينَ نَفْسًا نَزَلَ آبَاؤُكَ إِلَى مِصْرَ، وَالآنَ قَدْ جَعَلَكَ الرَّبُّ إِلهُكَ كَنُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ فِي الْكَثْرَةِ.

Therefore love the Lord thy God and observe his precepts and ceremonies, his judgments and commandments at all times. Know this day the things that your children know not, who saw not the chastisements of the Lord your God. his great doings and strong hand, and stretched out arm, The signs and works which he did in the midst of Egypt to king Pharao, and to all his land, And to all the host of the Egyptians, and to their horses and chariots: how the waters of the Red Sea covered them, when they pursued you, and how the Lord destroyed them until this present day: And what he hath done to you in the wilderness, till you came to this place: And to Dathan and Abiron the sons of Eliab, who was the son of Ruben: whom the earth, opening her mouth swallowed up with their households and tents, and all their substance, which they had in the midst of Israel. Your eyes have seen all the greet works of the Lord, that he hath done,

«فَأَحْبِبِ الرَّبَّ إِلهَكَ وَاحْفَظْ حُقُوقَهُ وَفَرَائِضَهُ وَأَحْكَامَهُ وَوَصَايَاهُ كُلَّ الأَيَّامِ. وَاعْلَمُوا الْيَوْمَ أَنِّي لَسْتُ أُرِيدُ بَنِيكُمُ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا وَلاَ رَأَوْا تَأْدِيبَ الرَّبِّ إِلهِكُمْ، عَظَمَتَهُ وَيَدَهُ الشَّدِيدَةَ وَذِرَاعَهُ الرَّفِيعَةَ وَآيَاتِهِ وَصَنَائِعَهُ الَّتِي عَمِلَهَا فِي مِصْرَ بِفِرْعَوْنَ مَلِكِ مِصْرَ وَبِكُلِّ أَرْضِهِ، وَالَّتِي عَمِلَهَا بِجَيْشِ مِصْرَ بِخَيْلِهِمْ وَمَرَاكِبِهِمْ، حَيْثُ أَطَافَ مِيَاهَ بَحْرِ سُوفٍ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ حِينَ سَعَوْا وَرَاءَكُمْ، فَأَبَادَهُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَى هذَا الْيَوْمِ، وَالَّتِي عَمِلَهَا لَكُمْ فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ حَتَّى جِئْتُمْ إِلَى هذَا الْمَكَانِ، وَالَّتِي عَمِلَهَا بِدَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ ابْنَيْ أَلِيآبَ ابْنِ رَأُوبَيْنَ اللَّذَيْنِ فَتَحَتِ الأَرْضُ فَاهَا وَابْتَلَعَتْهُمَا مَعَ بُيُوتِهِمَا وَخِيَامِهِمَا وَكُلِّ الْمَوْجُودَاتِ التَّابِعَةِ لَهُمَا فِي وَسْطِ كُلِّ إِسْرَائِيلَ. لأَنَّ أَعْيُنَكُمْ هِيَ الَّتِي أَبْصَرَتْ كُلَّ صَنَائِعِ الرَّبِّ الْعَظِيمَةِ الَّتِي عَمِلَهَا.

That you may keep all his commandments, which I command you this day, and may go in, and possess the land, to which you are entering, And may live in it a long time: which the Lord promised by oath to your fathers, and to their seed, a land which floweth with milk and honey. For the land, which thou goest to possess, is not like the land of Egypt, from whence thou camest out, where, when the seed is sown, waters are brought in to water it after the manner of gardens. But it is a land of hills and plains, expecting rain from heaven. And the Lord thy God doth always visit it, and his eyes are on it from the beginning of the year unto the end thereof.

«فَاحْفَظُوا كُلَّ الْوَصَايَا الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا الْيَوْمَ لِكَيْ تَتَشَدَّدُوا وَتَدْخُلُوا وَتَمْتَلِكُوا الأَرْضَ الَّتِي أَنْتُمْ عَابِرُونَ إِلَيْهَا لِتَمْتَلِكُوهَا، وَلِكَيْ تُطِيلُوا الأَيَّامَ عَلَى الأَرْضِ الَّتِي أَقْسَمَ الرَّبُّ لآبَائِكُمْ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهَا لَهُمْ وَلِنَسْلِهِمْ، أَرْضٌ تَفِيضُ لَبَنًا وَعَسَلاً. لأَنَّ الأَرْضَ الَّتِي أَنْتَ دَاخِلٌ إِلَيْهَا لِكَيْ تَمْتَلِكَهَا لَيْسَتْ مِثْلَ أَرْضِ مِصْرَ الَّتِي خَرَجْتَ مِنْهَا، حَيْثُ كُنْتَ تَزْرَعُ زَرْعَكَ وَتَسْقِيهِ بِرِجْلِكَ كَبُسْتَانِ بُقُول. بَلْ الأَرْضُ الَّتِي أَنْتُمْ عَابِرُونَ إِلَيْهَا لِكَيْ تَمْتَلِكُوهَا، هِيَ أَرْضُ جِبَال وَبِقَاعٍ. مِنْ مَطَرِ السَّمَاءِ تَشْرَبُ مَاءً. أَرْضٌ يَعْتَنِي بِهَا الرَّبُّ إِلهُكَ. عَيْنَا الرَّبِّ إِلهِكَ عَلَيْهَا دَائِمًا مِنْ أَوَّلِ السَّنَةِ إِلَى آخِرِهَا.

If then you obey my commandments, which I command you this day, that you love the Lord your God, and serve him with all your heart, and with all your soul: He will give to your land the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your corn, and your wine, and your oil, And your hay out of the fields to feed your cattle, and that you may eat and be filled. Beware lest perhaps your heart be deceived, and you depart from the Lord, and serve strange gods, and adore them: And the Lord being angry shut up heaven, that the rain come not down, nor the earth yield her fruit, and you perish quickly from the excellent land, which the Lord will give you.

«فَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ لِوَصَايَايَ الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا الْيَوْمَ لِتُحِبُّوا الرَّبَّ إِلهَكُمْ وَتَعْبُدُوهُ مِنْ كُلِّ قُلُوبِكُمْ وَمِنْ كُلِّ أَنْفُسِكُمْ، أُعْطِي مَطَرَ أَرْضِكُمْ فِي حِينِهِ: الْمُبَكِّرَ وَالْمُتَأَخِّرَ. فَتَجْمَعُ حِنْطَتَكَ وَخَمْرَكَ وَزَيْتَكَ. وَأُعْطِي لِبَهَائِمِكَ عُشْبًا فِي حَقْلِكَ فَتَأْكُلُ أَنْتَ وَتَشْبَعُ. فَاحْتَرِزُوا مِنْ أَنْ تَنْغَوِيَ قُلُوبُكُمْ فَتَزِيغُوا وَتَعْبُدُوا آلِهَةً أُخْرَى وَتَسْجُدُوا لَهَا، فَيَحْمَى غَضَبُ الرَّبِّ عَلَيْكُمْ، وَيُغْلِقُ السَّمَاءَ فَلاَ يَكُونُ مَطَرٌ، وَلاَ تُعْطِي الأَرْضُ غَلَّتَهَا، فَتَبِيدُونَ سَرِيعًا عَنِ الأَرْضِ الْجَيِّدَةِ الَّتِي يُعْطِيكُمُ الرَّبُّ.

Lay up these my words in your hearts and minds, and hang them for a sign on your hands, and place them between your eyes. Teach your children that they meditate on them, when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest on the way, and when thou liest down and risest up. Thou shalt write them upon the posts and the doors of thy house: That thy days may be multiplied, and the days of thy children in the land which the Lord swore to thy fathers, that he would give them as long as the heaven hangeth over the earth. For if you keep the commandments which I command you, and do them, to love the Lord your God, and walk in all his ways, cleaving unto him, The Lord will destroy all these nations before your face, and you shall possess them, which are greater and stronger than you. Every place, that your foot shall tread upon, shall be yours. From the desert, and from Libanus, from the great river Euphrates unto the western sea shall be your borders. None shall stand against you: the Lord your God shall lay the dread and fear of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as he hath spoken to you.

«فَضَعُوا كَلِمَاتِي هذِهِ عَلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَنُفُوسِكُمْ، وَارْبُطُوهَا عَلاَمَةً عَلَى أَيْدِيكُمْ، وَلْتَكُنْ عَصَائِبَ بَيْنَ عُيُونِكُمْ، وَعَلِّمُوهَا أَوْلاَدَكُمْ، مُتَكَلِّمِينَ بِهَا حِينَ تَجْلِسُونَ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ، وَحِينَ تَمْشُونَ فِي الطَّرِيقِ، وَحِينَ تَنَامُونَ، وَحِينَ تَقُومُونَ. وَاكْتُبْهَا عَلَى قَوَائِمِ أَبْوَابِ بَيْتِكَ وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِكَ، لِكَيْ تَكْثُرَ أَيَّامُكَ وَأَيَّامُ أَوْلاَدِكَ عَلَى الأَرْضِ الَّتِي أَقْسَمَ الرَّبُّ لآبَائِكَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهُمْ إِيَّاهَا، كَأَيَّامِ السَّمَاءِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ. لأَنَّهُ إِذَا حَفِظْتُمْ جَمِيعَ هذِهِ الْوَصَايَا الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا لِتَعْمَلُوهَا، لِتُحِبُّوا الرَّبَّ إِلهَكُمْ وَتَسْلُكُوا فِي جَمِيعِ طُرُقِهِ وَتَلْتَصِقُوا بِهِ، يَطْرُدُ الرَّبُّ جَمِيعَ هؤُلاَءِ الشُّعُوبِ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ، فَتَرِثُونَ شُعُوبًا أَكْبَرَ وَأَعْظَمَ مِنْكُمْ. كُلُّ مَكَانٍ تَدُوسُهُ بُطُونُ أَقْدَامِكُمْ يَكُونُ لَكُمْ. مِنَ الْبَرِّيَّةِ وَلُبْنَانَ. مِنَ النَّهْرِ، نَهْرِ الْفُرَاتِ، إِلَى الْبَحْرِ الْغَرْبِيِّ يَكُونُ تُخْمُكُمْ. لاَ يَقِفُ إِنْسَانٌ فِي وَجْهِكُمْ. اَلرَّبُّ إِلهُكُمْ يَجْعَلُ خَشْيَتَكُمْ وَرُعْبَكُمْ عَلَى كُلِّ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي تَدُوسُونَهَا كَمَا كَلَّمَكُمْ.

Behold I set forth in your sight this day a blessing and a curse: A blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: A curse, if you obey not the commandments of the Lord your. God, but revolt from the way which now I shew you, and walk after strange gods which you know not. Glory be to The Holy Trinity.

«اُنْظُرْ. أَنَا وَاضِعٌ أَمَامَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ بَرَكَةً وَلَعْنَةً: الْبَرَكَةُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ لِوَصَايَا الرَّبِّ إِلهِكُمُ الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا الْيَوْمَ. وَاللَّعْنَةُ إِذَا لَمْ تَسْمَعُوا لِوَصَايَا الرَّبِّ إِلهِكُمْ، وَزُغْتُمْ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِهَا الْيَوْمَ لِتَذْهَبُوا وَرَاءَ آلِهَةٍ أُخْرَى لَمْ تَعْرِفُوهَا. مَجْدَاً لِلثَالُوث الأَقَدَسْ.

From the book of Isaiah

من أشعياء النبي

29:13-23

٢٩ : ١٣ − ٢٣

And the Lord said: Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips glorify me, but their heart is far from me, and they have feared me with the commandment and doctrines of men: Therefore behold I will proceed to cause an admiration in this people, by a great and wonderful miracle: for wisdom shall perish from their wise men, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. Woe to you that are deep of heart, to hide your counsel from the Lord: and their works are in the dark, and they say: Who seeth us, and who knoweth us? This thought of yours is perverse: as if the clay should think against the potter, and the work should say to the maker thereof: Thou madest me not: or the thing framed should say to him that fashioned it: Thou understandest not.

فَقَالَ السَّيِّدُ: «لأَنَّ هذَا الشَّعْبَ قَدِ اقْتَرَبَ إِلَيَّ بِفَمِهِ وَأَكْرَمَنِي بِشَفَتَيْهِ، وَأَمَّا قَلْبُهُ فَأَبْعَدَهُ عَنِّي، وَصَارَتْ مَخَافَتُهُمْ مِنِّي وَصِيَّةَ النَّاسِ مُعَلَّمَةً. لِذلِكَ هأَنَذَا أَعُودُ أَصْنَعُ بِهذَا الشَّعْبِ عَجَبًا وَعَجِيبًا، فَتَبِيدُ حِكْمَةُ حُكَمَائِهِ، وَيَخْتَفِي فَهْمُ فُهَمَائِهِ». وَيْلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَتَعَمَّقُونَ لِيَكْتُمُوا رَأْيَهُمْ عَنِ الرَّبِّ، فَتَصِيرُ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فِي الظُّلْمَةِ، وَيَقُولُونَ: «مَنْ يُبْصِرُنَا وَمَنْ يَعْرِفُنَا؟». يَا لَتَحْرِيفِكُمْ! هَلْ يُحْسَبُ الْجَابِلُ كَالطِّينِ، حَتَّى يَقُولُ الْمَصْنُوعُ عَنْ صَانِعِهِ: «لَمْ يَصْنَعْنِي». أَوْ تَقُولُ الْجُبْلَةُ عَنْ جَابِلِهَا: «لَمْ يَفْهَمْ»؟

Is it not yet a very little while, and Libanus shall be turned into charmel, and charmel shall be esteemed as a forest? And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and out of darkness and obscurity the eyes of the blind shall see. And the meek shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. For he that did prevail hath failed, the scorner is consumed, and they are all cut off that watched for iniquity: That made men sin by word, and supplanted him that reproved them in the gate, and declined in vain from the just.

أَلَيْسَ فِي مُدَّةٍ يَسِيرَةٍ جِدًّا يَتَحَوَّلُ لُبْنَانُ بُسْتَانًا، وَالْبُسْتَانُ يُحْسَبُ وَعْرًا؟ وَيَسْمَعُ فِي ذلِكَ الْيَوْمِ الصُّمُّ أَقْوَالَ السِّفْرِ، وَتَنْظُرُ مِنَ الْقَتَامِ وَالظُّلْمَةِ عُيُونُ الْعُمْيِ، وَيَزْدَادُ الْبَائِسُونَ فَرَحًا بِالرَّبِّ، وَيَهْتِفُ مَسَاكِينُ النَّاسِ بِقُدُّوسِ إِسْرَائِيلَ. لأَنَّ الْعَاتِيَ قَدْ بَادَ، وَفَنِيَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئُ، وَانْقَطَعَ كُلُّ السَّاهِرِينَ عَلَى الإِثْمِ الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا الإِنْسَانَ يُخْطِئُ بِكَلِمَةٍ، وَنَصَبُوا فَخًّا لِلْمُنْصِفِ فِي الْبَابِ، وَصَدُّوا الْبَارَّ بِالْبُطْلِ.

Therefore thus saith the Lord to the house of Jacob, he that redeemed Abraham: Jacob shall not now be confounded, neither shall his countenance now be ashamed: But when he shall see his children, the work of my hands in the midst of him sanctifying my name, and they shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall glorify the God of Israel: Glory be to The Holy Trinity.

لِذلِكَ هكَذَا يَقُولُ لِبَيْتِ يَعْقُوبَ الرَّبُّ الَّذِي فَدَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ: «لَيْسَ الآنَ يَخْجَلُ يَعْقُوبُ، وَلَيْسَ الآنَ يَصْفَارُّ وَجْهُهُ. بَلْ عِنْدَ رُؤْيَةِ أَوْلاَدِهِ عَمَلِ يَدَيَّ فِي وَسَطِهِ يُقَدِّسُونَ اسْمِي، وَيُقَدِّسُونَ قُدُّوسَ يَعْقُوبَ، وَيَرْهَبُونَ إِلهَ إِسْرَائِيلَ. مَجْدَاً لِلثَالُوث الأَقَدَسْ.

From the book of Job

من أيوب الصديق

21:1-34

٢١ : ١ − ٣٤

Then Job answered, and said: Hear, I beseech you, my words, and do penance. Suffer me, and I will speak, and after, if you please, laugh at my words. Is my debate against man, that I should not have just reason to be troubled? Hearken to me and be astonished, and lay your finger on your mouth.

فَأَجَابَ أَيُّوبُ وَقَالَ: «اِسْمَعُوا قَوْلِي سَمْعًا، وَلْيَكُنْ هذَا تَعْزِيَتَكُمْ. اِحْتَمِلُونِي وَأَنَا أَتَكَلَّمُ، وَبَعْدَ كَلاَمِي اسْتَهْزِئُوا. أَمَّا أَنَا فَهَلْ شَكْوَايَ مِنْ إِنْسَانٍ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ، فَلِمَاذَا لاَ تَضِيقُ رُوحِي؟ تَفَرَّسُوا فِيَّ وَتَعَجَّبُوا وَضَعُوا الْيَدَ عَلَى الْفَمِ.

As for me, when I remember, I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh. Why then do the wicked live, are they advanced, and strengthened with riches? Their seed continueth before them, a multitude of kinsmen, and of children's children in their sight. Their houses are secure and peaceable, and the rod of God is not upon them. Their cattle have conceived, and failed not: their cow has calved, and is not deprived of her fruit. Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children dance and play. They take the timbrel, and the harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment they go down to hell. Who have said to God: Depart from us, we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what doth it profit us if we pray to him?

Yet because their good things are not in their hand, may the counsel of the wicked be far from me. How often shall the lamp of the wicked be put out, and a deluge come upon them, and he shall distribute the sorrows of his wrath? They shall be as chaff before the face of the wind, and as ashes which the whirlwind scattereth. God shall lay up the sorrow of the father for his children: and when he shall repay, then shall he know. His eyes shall see his own destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. For what is it to him what befalleth his house after him: and if the number of his months be diminished by one half?

«هُوَذَا لَيْسَ فِي يَدِهِمْ خَيْرُهُمْ. لِتَبْعُدْ عَنِّي مَشُورَةُ الأَشْرَارِ. كَمْ يَنْطَفِئُ سِرَاجُ الأَشْرَارِ، وَيَأْتِي عَلَيْهِمْ بَوَارُهُمْ؟ أَوْ يَقْسِمُ لَهُمْ أَوْجَاعًا فِي غَضَبِهِ؟ أَوْ يَكُونُونَ كَالتِّبْنِ قُدَّامَ الرِّيحِ، وَكَالْعُصَافَةِ الَّتِي تَسْرِقُهَا الزَّوْبَعَةُ؟ اَللهُ يَخْزِنُ إِثْمَهُ لِبَنِيهِ. لِيُجَازِهِ نَفْسَهُ فَيَعْلَمَ. لِتَنْظُرْ عَيْنَاهُ هَلاَكَهُ، وَمِنْ حُمَةِ الْقَدِيرِ يَشْرَبْ. فَمَا هِيَ مَسَرَّتُهُ فِي بَيْتِهِ بَعْدَهُ، وَقَدْ تَعَيَّنَ عَدَدُ شُهُورِهِ؟

Shall any one teach God knowledge, who judgeth those that are high? One man dieth strong, and hale, rich and happy. His bowels are full of fat, and his bones are moistened with marrow. But another dieth in bitterness of soul without any riches: And yet they shall sleep together in the dust, and worms shall cover them.

Surely I know your thoughts, and your unjust judgments against me. For you say: Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked? Ask any one of them that go by the way, and you shall perceive that he knoweth these same things. Because the wicked man is reserved to the day of destruction, and he shall be brought to the day of wrath. Who shall reprove his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done? He shall be brought to the graves, and shall watch in the heap of the dead. He hath been acceptable to the gravel of Cocytus, and he shall draw every man after him, and there are innumerable before him. How then do ye comfort me in vain, whereas your answer is shewn to be repugnant to truth?

فَبُهِتُوا مِنْ تَعْلِيمِهِ؛ لأنَّ كَلاَمَهُ كَانَ بِسُلْطَانٍ. وَكَانَ يُوجَدُ في الْمَجْمَعِ رَجُلٌ بِهِ رُوحُ شَيْطَانٍ نَجِسٍ، فَصَاحَ بِصَوْتٍ عَظِيمٍ

Saying: Let us alone, what have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God.

قَائِلاً: «مَا لَنَا وَلَكَ يَا يَسُوعُ النَّاصِرِيُّ؟ أَتَيْتَ لِتُهْلِكَنَا! أَنا أَعْرِفُكَ مَنْ أَنْتَ: قُدُّوسُ اللَّهِ!».

And Jesus rebuked him, saying: Hold thy peace, and go out of him. And when the devil had thrown him into the midst, he went out of him, and hurt him not at all. And there came fear upon all, and they talked among themselves, saying: What word is this, for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they go out? And the fame of him was published into every place of the country.

فَانْتَهَرَهُ يَسُوعُ قَائِلاً: «اخْرَسْ! وَاخْرُجْ مِنْهُ!». فَصَرَعَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ في الْوَسَطِ وَخَرَجَ مِنْهُ وَلَمْ يُؤْلِمْهُ شَيْءٌ. فَحَدَثَ خَوْفٌ عَظِيمٌ عَلَى جَمِيعِهِمْ، وَكَانُوا يُكَلِّمُونَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضاً قَائِلِينَ: «مَا هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةُ؟ لأَنهُ بِسُلْطَانٍ وَقُوَّةٍ يَأْمُرُ الأَرْوَاحَ النَّجِسَةَ فَتَخْرُجُ!». فَذَاعَ صِيتٌ عَنْهُ في كُلِّ مَوْضِعٍ في الْكُورَةِ الْمُحِيطَةِ.

So that we may confidently say: The Lord is my helper: I will not fear what man shall do to me.

حَتَّى إِنَّنَا نَقُولُ وَاثِقِينَ:«الرَّبُّ مُعِينٌ لِي فَلاَ أَخَافُ. مَاذَا يَصْنَعُ بِي إِنْسَانٌ؟»

Remember your prelates who have spoken the word of God to you; whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation,

اُذْكُرُوا مُرْشِدِيكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَلَّمُوكُمْ بِكَلِمَةِ اللهِ. انْظُرُوا إِلَى نِهَايَةِ سِيرَتِهِمْ فَتَمَثَّلُوا بِإِيمَانِهِمْ.

Jesus Christ, yesterday, and today; and the same for ever.

يَسُوعُ الْمَسِيحُ هُوَ هُوَ أَمْسًا وَالْيَوْمَ وَإِلَى الأَبَدِ.

Be not led away with various and strange doctrines. For it is best that the heart be established with grace, not with meats; which have not profited those that walk in them. We have an altar, whereof they have no power to eat who serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the holies by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people by his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore to him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For we have not here a lasting city, but we seek one that is to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise always to God, that is to say, the fruit of lips confessing to his name. And do not forget to do good, and to impart; for by such sacrifices God's favour is obtained.

لاَ تُسَاقُوا بِتَعَالِيمَ مُتَنَوِّعَةٍ وَغَرِيبَةٍ، لأَنَّهُ حَسَنٌ أَنْ يُثَبَّتَ الْقَلْبُ بِالنِّعْمَةِ، لاَ بِأَطْعِمَةٍ لَمْ يَنْتَفِعْ بِهَا الَّذِينَ تَعَاطَوْهَا. لَنَا «مَذْبَحٌ» لاَ سُلْطَانَ لِلَّذِينَ يَخْدِمُونَ الْمَسْكَنَ أَنْ يَأْكُلُوا مِنْهُ. فَإِنَّ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ الَّتِي يُدْخَلُ بِدَمِهَا عَنِ الْخَطِيَّةِ إِلَى «الأَقْدَاسِ» بِيَدِ رَئِيسِ الْكَهَنَةِ تُحْرَقُ أَجْسَامُهَا خَارِجَ الْمَحَلَّةِ. لِذلِكَ يَسُوعُ أَيْضًا، لِكَيْ يُقَدِّسَ الشَّعْبَ بِدَمِ نَفْسِهِ، تَأَلَّمَ خَارِجَ الْبَابِ. فَلْنَخْرُجْ إِذًا إِلَيْهِ خَارِجَ الْمَحَلَّةِ حَامِلِينَ عَارَهُ. لأَنْ لَيْسَ لَنَا هُنَا مَدِينَةٌ بَاقِيَةٌ، لكِنَّنَا نَطْلُبُ الْعَتِيدَةَ. فَلْنُقَدِّمْ بِهِ فِي كُلِّ حِينٍ ِللهِ ذَبِيحَةَ التَّسْبِيحِ، أَيْ ثَمَرَ شِفَاهٍ مُعْتَرِفَةٍ بِاسْمِهِ. وَلكِنْ لاَ تَنْسَوْا فِعْلَ الْخَيْرِ وَالتَّوْزِيعَ، لأَنَّهُ بِذَبَائِحَ مِثْلِ هذِهِ يُسَرُّ اللهُ.

Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.

My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us. In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit. And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. And we have known, and have believed the charity, which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him. Do not love the world or the things in the world. The world passes away, and its desires; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Amen.

And it came to pass, when I was come again to Jerusalem, and was praying in the temple, that I was in a trance, And saw him saying unto me: Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem; because they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. And I said: Lord, they know that I cast into prison, and beat in every synagogue, them that believed in thee. And when the blood of Stephen thy witness was shed, I stood by and consented, and kept the garments of them that killed him. And he said to me: Go, for unto the Gentiles afar off, will I send thee.

وَحَدَثَ لِي بَعْدَ مَا رَجَعْتُ إِلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ وَكُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فِي الْهَيْكَلِ، أَنِّي حَصَلْتُ فِي غَيْبَةٍ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ قَائِلاً لِي: أَسْرِعْ! وَاخْرُجْ عَاجِلاً مِنْ أُورُشَلِيمَ، لأَنَّهُمْ لاَ يَقْبَلُونَ شَهَادَتَكَ عَنِّي. فَقُلْتُ: يَارَبُّ، هُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَحْبِسُ وَأَضْرِبُ فِي كُلِّ مَجْمَعٍ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِكَ. وَحِينَ سُفِكَ دَمُ اسْتِفَانُوسَ شَهِيدِكَ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَاقِفًا وَرَاضِيًا بِقَتْلِهِ، وَحَافِظًا ثِيَابَ الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوهُ. فَقَالَ لِي: اذْهَبْ، فَإِنِّي سَأُرْسِلُكَ إِلَى الأُمَمِ بَعِيدًا».

And they heard him until this word, and then lifted up their voice, saying: Away with such an one from the earth; for it is not fit that he should live. And as they cried out and threw off their garments, and cast dust into the air, The tribune commanded him to be brought into the castle, and that he should be scourged and tortured: to know for what cause they did so cry out against him.

فَسَمِعُوا لَهُ حَتَّى هذِهِ الْكَلِمَةَِ، ثُمَّ رَفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ قَائِلِينَ:«خُذْ مِثْلَ هذَا مِنَ الأَرْضِ، لأَنَّهُ كَانَ لاَ يَجُوزُ أَنْ يَعِيشَ!». وَإِذْ كَانُوا يَصِيحُونَ وَيَطْرَحُونَ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَيَرْمُونَ غُبَارًا إِلَى الْجَوِّ، أَمَرَ الأَمِيرُ أَنْ يُذْهَبَ بِهِ إِلَى الْمُعَسْكَرِ، قَائِلاً أَنْ يُفْحَصَ بِضَرَبَاتٍ، لِيَعْلَمَ لأَيِّ سَبَبٍ كَانُوا يَصْرُخُونَ عَلَيْهِ هكَذَا.

The word of the Lord shall grow, multiply, be mighty, and be confirmed, in the holy Church of God. Amen.

And when Jesus had passed away from thence, he came nigh the sea of Galilee. And going up into a mountain, he sat there. And there came to him great multitudes, having with them the dumb, the blind, the lame, the maimed, and many others: and they cast them down at his feet, and he healed them: So that the multitudes marvelled seeing the dumb speak, the lame walk, and the blind see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

ثُمَّ انْتَقَلَ يَسُوعُ مِنْ هُنَاكَ، وَجَاءَ إلى جَانِبِ بَحْرِ الْجَلِيلِ، وَصَعِدَ إلى الْجَبَلِ وَجَلَسَ هُنَاكَ. فَجَاءَتْ إلَيْهِ جُمُوعٌ كَثِيرَةٌ، مَعَهُمْ عُرْجٌ وَعُمْيٌ وَصُمٌّ وَشُلٌّ وَآخَرُونَ كَثِيرُونَ، وَطَرَحُوهُمْ عِنْدَ قَدَمِيْهِ فَشَفَاهُمْ حَتَّى تَعَجَّبَتِ الْجُمُوعُ إذْ رَأَوُا الْخُرْسَ يَتَكَلَّمُونَ، وَالْعُرْجَ يَمْشُونَ، وَالْعُمْيَ يُبْصِرُونَ، وَالصُّمَّ يَسْمَعُونَ. وَمَجَّدُوا إلَهَ إسْرَائِيلَ.
